Pour in the vegetable or chicken broth and water. Add the soaked chickpeas, lentils, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and let simmer for 45 minutes.
1/2 cup dried chickpeas, 1/2 cup green lentils, 4 cups vegetable broth, 2 large tomatoes, 1/4 cup tomato paste, 2 cups water
Finish the soup:
Add the vermicelli or small pasta and continue to simmer for another 10-15 minutes until the pasta is cooked. Stir in chopped cilantro and parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve:
Ladle the soup into bowls and serve hot.
Notes
Harira is traditionally enjoyed with lemon wedges and dates.
Adjust the thickness by adding more broth or water if needed.
