Cook the spaghetti in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking until the garlic is golden brown but not burnt.
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil, 4 cloves garlic, 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet, tossing to coat the pasta in the garlic oil. Season with salt to taste.
Salt to taste
Serve immediately, garnished with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes
For added flavor, toss in some cooked shrimp or a squeeze of lemon juice.
