Caipirinha – Brazil’s Classic Cocktail

- Cocktail muddler

Ingredients
- 1 lime cut into wedges
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 2 oz 60 ml cachaça
- Crushed ice
Instructions
Prepare the Lime:
- Cut the lime into 8 wedges and place them directly into a sturdy rocks glass.1 lime
Muddle the Lime and Sugar:
- Add the granulated sugar to the glass with the lime wedges.2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- Using a cocktail muddler, firmly press down on the limes and sugar to release the lime juice and dissolve the sugar. Muddle for about 30 seconds, ensuring the lime oils from the skin are also released, which enhances the flavor.
Add the Cachaça:
- Pour 2 oz of cachaça over the muddled lime and sugar mixture.2 oz 60 ml cachaça
Add Ice and Stir:
- Fill the glass with crushed ice, almost to the top.Crushed ice
- Stir the mixture well using a bar spoon or stirrer, allowing the sugar to dissolve completely into the drink.
Serve:
- Garnish with a lime wedge if desired, and serve immediately. Enjoy your Caipirinha!
Notes
Quality of Cachaça: For the best Caipirinha, use a high-quality cachaça. It makes a huge difference in the taste of the final drink.
Ice Type: Crushed ice is preferable as it dilutes the drink more evenly, but cubed ice works if that’s what you have on hand.
