Classic Chicago-Style Deep-Dish Pizza Recipe

Ingredients
For the crust:
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup water warm
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
- ¼ cup olive oil
For the filling:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 pound Italian sausage cooked and crumbled
- 1 green bell pepper diced
- 1 onion diced
- 2 cups crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Prepare the crust:
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.1 tsp sugar, 1 cup water, 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- Add flour, cornmeal, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms. Knead for 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal, 1 tsp salt, 1/4 cup olive oil
Preheat the oven:
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
Prepare the filling:
- In a skillet, cook the Italian sausage until browned. Remove and drain excess fat.1 pound Italian sausage
- In the same skillet, sauté the diced bell pepper and onion until softened.1 green bell pepper
Assemble the pizza:
- Roll out the dough to fit the deep-dish pan. Press the dough into the pan and up the sides.

Bake:
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly.
- Let the pizza cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
