Traditional Australian Meat Pies Recipe

Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 sheets puff pastry
- 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
Prepare the Filling:
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned.1 pound ground beef
- Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until softened.1 onion, 2 cloves garlic
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.1 tablespoon flour
- Add the beef broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Let cool.1 cup beef broth, 2 tablespoons tomato paste, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, Salt and pepper to taste
Assemble the Pies:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.2 sheets puff pastry
- Cut circles to fit your pie tins, leaving enough for the tops.
- Line the pie tins with pastry, fill with the meat mixture, and top with another pastry circle. Crimp the edges to seal.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg.1 egg
Bake the Pies:
- Place the pies on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Serve:
- Serve hot with a side of ketchup or your favorite sauce.
