Ingredients
 
 

  • 4 slices white bread
  • 4 tbsp kaya coconut and egg jam
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter cold

Instructions
 

Toast the bread:

  • Toast the slices of bread until golden brown and crispy using a toaster or grill pan.
    4 slices white bread

Assemble the kaya toast:

  • Spread 1 tablespoon of kaya on one side of each slice of toast.
    4 tbsp kaya
  • Place a pat of cold butter (1/2 tablespoon) on two of the kaya-spread slices.
    2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Top with the remaining slices of toast, kaya side down, to form sandwiches.

Serve:

  • Cut the kaya toast sandwiches diagonally and serve immediately.

Notes

Kaya can be found in Asian grocery stores or made at home.
Serve with soft-boiled eggs and a cup of strong coffee for a complete traditional breakfast.
