Authentic New Orleans Beignets Recipe

Ingredients
- 1 cup water warm
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup evaporated milk
- 3 ½ cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup shortening
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions

- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5-10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
- Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into 2-inch squares.
