Delicious Nepali Momos Recipe

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup water more if needed
- 1 lb ground meat chicken, beef, or pork or finely chopped vegetables for vegetarian version
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 inch ginger grated
- ½ cup cilantro chopped
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil for vegetarian filling
Instructions
Prepare the dough:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and water, kneading until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup water
Prepare the filling:
- In another bowl, mix the ground meat or chopped vegetables with onion, garlic, ginger, cilantro, soy sauce, turmeric, cumin, salt, and pepper. Form the momos:
- Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each ball into a thin circle, about 3 inches in diameter. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle, fold the edges over the filling, and pinch to seal, forming pleats.
Steam the momos:
- Arrange the momos in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper or lightly greased. Steam over boiling water for about 15-20 minutes until the dough is cooked through and the filling is hot.
Serve:
- Serve hot with dipping sauce, such as soy sauce mixed with chili sauce or a traditional Nepali tomato-based chutney.
Notes
Serve with a side of fresh salad for a balanced meal.
